Ripley's Aquarium

Yesterday, on what I thought was a basic outing with my friend, my boyfriend surprised me at the Go Station. Both him and I have wanted to visit Ripley's Aquarium downtown ever since it first opened, but, we wanted to wait out the crowds as much as possible knowing that going too soon would result in a sardines in a tin can situation (pun intended). She was in on the surprise and it was exciting to see him. He was there with two tickets to the aquarium in tow.The whole train ride there I couldn't stop smiling and walking around the aquarium with him was easily, one of the best days of my life. Surrounded by mysterious, fascinating beauty, and holding his hand. He's already gone again, on his way back home as I type, but I treasure the time that we did have. If you're reading this Kevin, I miss you already.

Sappiness aside, we both love water, aquatic life and aquariums a great deal, so we enjoyed geeking out (did you know that a shark can smell one drop of blood in a million drops of water?) and loved the vibe there in general. Every section of the aquarium had different music, which helped give all the sections a different vibe and it was very calming. I could have done with less people (especially less kids and strollers, my god) but it was a wonderful experience and very worth the admission.

In terms of photography, that place is like a boss level and your jump button doesn't work. Fuck. Super hard. Kevin has taken a photography class or two in his college program, so, he knows more about advanced settings on cameras than I. He mentioned not liking to depend on the camera automatically changing its iOS, shutter speed and the like automatically, so he was showing me how to do it by hand. Every section of the aquarium had different lighting, so it required fiddling with the camera A LOT. I'm not normally a photography nut but I love learning new things and seeing the result of learning/improving. He took the bulk of our pictures but some of them were shots of mine and I'm really proud of them. The pictures to follow are some of my fav pictures of the day, both his and mine. We borrowed his Mom's camera which is a Canon Rebel t3i I believe.... but don't quote me on it. It's one of the Rebels. There's so many cameras I can't keep them all straight. Anyways, enjoy!
